Lickitung has always been one of those quirky Normal-type Pokémon that players either love for its goofy design or ignore completely. However, in the Hisui region of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, completing the Pokédex is your primary mission, and that means you cannot skip out on its evolution, Lickilicky. Unlike older generations where evolution happened automatically upon leveling up, Legends: Arceus introduces a manual mechanic that can be a bit confusing if you are used to the old ways.

Evolving Lickitung isn't about using a Stone or reaching a specific friendship level. It is tied to a specific move that Lickitung must master. Here is the breakdown of how to get your Lickilicky and where to find the best specimens in the wild.

Where to Find Lickitung in Hisui

Before you can evolve one, you need to catch one. Lickitung is relatively common in the mid-to-late game areas of Hisui. You don't need any special weather conditions to find them; they appear during the day and night in all types of weather.

Crimson Mirelands

This is likely the first place you will encounter Lickitung. Head over to the Shrouded Ruins. You will find several Lickitung wandering around the crumbling stone structures. They are generally peaceful but can become aggressive if you linger too close without attempting a catch.

Alabaster Icelands

If you missed it in the Mirelands, the snowy peaks of the Alabaster Icelands offer more opportunities. Check the Snowfall Hot Spring and the Avalanche Slopes. The Lickitung here tend to be slightly higher in level, which actually saves you time on the grind toward evolution.

Space-Time Distortions

Lickitung also appears within Space-Time Distortions in the Obsidian Fieldlands. While this is a random spawn, it is a good way to find Lickitung with higher Effort Levels (ELs) right out of the gate.

The Evolution Requirement: Learning Rollout

The secret to evolving Lickitung is the move Rollout. This is a Rock-type physical move that has been the evolution trigger for this species since Generation IV, and that rule remains firm in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Lickitung learns Rollout at Level 34.

If you catch a Lickitung at a lower level, you will need to grind experience points to get it to 34. The fastest way to do this in 2026 is by utilizing Exp. Candies (S, M, or L) which you can earn from defeating Alpha Pokémon or completing requests. Alternatively, keeping Lickitung in your party while you battle high-level wild Pokémon in the Alabaster Icelands will distribute shared experience quickly.

How to Manually Trigger the Evolution

In Hisui, Pokémon do not evolve on the results screen after a battle. Even if your Lickitung hits Level 34 and learns Rollout, nothing will happen until you take action. Follow these specific steps to complete the process:

  1. Check the Move Set: Once Lickitung hits Level 34, it will have the ability to use Rollout, but it might not be "equipped" to its active move set. Open your Satchel (Up-directional button), select Lickitung, and choose Change Moves. Ensure Rollout is in one of the four active slots.
  2. Look for the Glowing Icon: Once Rollout is equipped and the level requirement is met, the Poké Ball icon next to Lickitung in your party menu will start to glow yellow.
  3. Select Evolve: Highlight Lickitung in your menu and press the X button. The game will ask for a confirmation. Once you confirm, the evolution sequence begins, and you will have a brand-new Lickilicky.

Finding an Alpha Lickilicky

If you want to skip the evolution process entirely, the Hisui region offers a shortcut in the form of an Alpha Lickilicky. This giant version of the Pokémon comes with high Effort Levels and a pre-mastered move set.

  • Location: North of the Shrouded Ruins in the Crimson Mirelands.
  • Level: This Alpha is usually Level 52.
  • Strategy: It is quite tanky. Use a Fighting-type Pokémon like Machamp or Lucario to weaken it. Since it is an Alpha, it can be aggressive, so using Heavy Balls or Lead Balls while it is distracted by food (like Dazzling Honey) is highly recommended.

Lickilicky’s Best Nature and Moveset for Legends: Arceus

Lickilicky is a versatile Normal-type tank. Because it has decent stats in both Physical and Special categories, you have a few options for Natures.

  • Adamant (+Attack, -Sp. Atk): Best if you want to focus on moves like Double-Edge or Zen Headbutt.
  • Modest (+Sp. Atk, -Attack): Best if you want to use its surprisingly deep special move pool, including Ice Beam, Flamethrower, or Thunderbolt (available from Zisu at the Training Grounds).

In the current gameplay meta, a Physical Tank build is usually more effective for surviving the heavy hitters found in the post-game Massive Mass Outbreaks. We recommend a moveset consisting of:

  1. Double-Edge (High damage STAB move)
  2. Zen Headbutt (To cover its Fighting-type weakness)
  3. Rollout or Rock Slide (For coverage against Flying and Bug types)
  4. Bulldoze or Iron Tail (For utility and slowing down opponents)

Completing the Research Tasks

To reach Research Level 10 for Lickitung (and eventually get that Shiny Charm), you need more than just evolution. Here is the most efficient way to clear the checklist:

  • Catching Sleeping Lickitung: Use Stealth Spray and Smoke Bombs in the Shrouded Ruins. It is much easier to catch them while they are napping to tick off this specific task.
  • Feeding Items: Lickitung loves Dazzling Honey, Hearty Grains, and Plump Beans. Throwing these near a wild Lickitung before catching it will satisfy the "Times you've given it food" requirement.
  • Using Rollout: If you are evolving it anyway, use Lickitung in a few low-level battles and spam Rollout. This helps you complete the task for "Times you've seen it use Rollout" while also working toward the evolution level.

Lickilicky might not have the legendary status of Dialga or Palkia, but its bulk and versatility make it a reliable member of any team exploring the harsh environments of ancient Hisui. Whether you evolve it at Level 34 or hunt down the Alpha, make sure you don't leave this long-tongued powerhouse out of your collection.
