How to Trigger Silksong Act 3 and the Silk and Soul Ending
Pharloom is a kingdom designed to mislead the weary traveler. After the climactic battle at the Citadel and the rolling of the credits at the end of Act 2, many players might feel their journey with Hornet has concluded. However, a hidden layer exists beneath the surface of the standard ending. Known among the community as Act 3 or the "Abyss" phase, this secret content fundamentally shifts the world state and introduces a new level of mechanical complexity that requires specific, cryptic steps to unlock.
Accessing this content isn't just about reaching a certain percentage of completion; it is tied to a specific Wayfarer Wish titled "Silk and Soul." This quest transforms the final encounter and reopens the world in a state of decay and void infection.
The Prerequisites: Cleaning the Wish Boards
To even see the prompt for the third act, you must become a fixture of Pharloom’s society. The most time-consuming requirement is the completion of the Wish Boards found across the major settlements: Bone Bottom, Bell Hart, and Song Clave.
While there is ongoing debate regarding whether every single minor delivery quest is mandatory, it is widely accepted that finishing the primary hunt and donation wishes is the only guaranteed trigger. This includes high-tier tasks like the "Pharloom’s Crown" ascension and the restoration projects in Bell Hart and Song Clave. These tasks provide the necessary reputation with the kingdom's remaining denizens to move the story into its final state.
The Flea Caravan and Fleatopia
Parallel to the Wish Boards, the Flea Caravan sub-quest must reach its ultimate conclusion. You are required to find at least 25 of the 30 lost fleas scattered throughout the world. Once this threshold is met, speak with Mooshka. The caravan needs to move through three distinct phases: moving from the Morrow to Greymoor, then to the Blasted Steps, and finally settling in the Putrefied Ducts, an area that many players overlook in the mid-game.
Only after the caravan reaches its final destination, "Fleatopia," will the game register that you have fulfilled the communal requirements of Pharloom.
Securing Your Own Bell Home
Once the Wish Boards are cleared, return to Bell Hart and speak with Pavo. Having completed the settlement's needs, you will be gifted the key to a personal Bell Home. This room is located in the upper-left section of the main chamber. While it serves as a resting point, its primary function in the meta-game is to trigger the appearance of the "Silk and Soul" wish on the Bell Hart bounty board.
Completing the Silk and Soul Wish
After accepting the quest, you must travel to Song Clave to consult with the Caretaker. They will outline a desperate plan to trap the divine entity known as Grand Mother Silk, preventing the cycle of binding that traditionally ends the game. This requires gathering four distinct components from the farthest reaches of the map.
1. The Maiden’s Soul
Travel back to the very beginning of your journey in Bone Bottom. Speak with the Chapel Maid. If she does not appear immediately, it is often because the local area has not refreshed; resting at the nearby bench to trigger a secondary skirmish with a Skull Tyrant typically fixes this. She will provide the Maiden’s Soul, a relic of the kingdom's earliest days.
2. The Hermit’s Soul
In the piping systems directly beneath the Bellhart Bellway, behind a destructible wall on the right side of the chamber, lives the Bell Hermit. He has remained hidden for the majority of the game, but once the Silk and Soul wish is active, he will relinquish his soul to Hornet to aid in the final trap.
3. The Seeker’s Soul
This is arguably the most difficult component to acquire. It is located in the toxic region of Bile Water. You must navigate through the Sinner’s Road to the top of the main shaft in Bile Water and defeat Gro Al the Great. This boss is notorious for spitting maggot-filled globules that drain your silk meter. Once defeated, enter the hut to the left of the boss arena to claim the soul.
4. The Snare Setter
To find this, you must have previously opened the Needolin door under Bone Bottom to access the sub-zone known as Weavenest at La. From the bench in Weavenest, move to the corridor above. There is a hidden opening in the ceiling between the last light fixture and the water pool. Double jump through the fake ceiling to find the Snare Setter on a stone altar.
With all four items in hand, return to the Caretaker at the Citadel. They will craft a unique trap and move to the terminus of the Cradle, awaiting the final battle.
The Final Choice at the Cradle
The transition to Act 3 occurs during the fight with Grand Mother Silk. Play through the encounter as you normally would. When the boss is finally brought to its knees, the game typically offers the "Bind" prompt to conclude the story.
However, if you have completed the Caretaker’s quest, a second prompt—"Needolin"—will appear. You must hold the button for the Needolin prompt. Instead of Hornet sacrificing herself to bind the silk, she will use the trap to attempt to contain the god. This results in an "ambush" by Lace and a catastrophic failure of the containment, leading to the "Breaking" of Pharloom.
Entering the Abyss: Breaking the Save File
After the resulting cutscene and the credits roll for the second time, you will be returned to the main menu. At first glance, it may seem like your save file is corrupted. Black, writhing void tendrils will cover the save slot, and attempting to select it will initially fail.
This is a deliberate mechanical gate. You must repeatedly press the action button (the attack or bind button) to "slash" through the vines on the menu screen. After several seconds of persistent input, the vines will shatter, and the save file will load, placing you at the start of Act 3: Abyss.
Surviving Pharloom in Act 3
Upon awakening at the bottom of the Cradle, you will notice that the kingdom has changed. The music is distorted, the color palette has shifted to dark violets and blacks, and the environment is in ruins.
Mechanical Penalties
Hornet begins Act 3 in a weakened state. You are reverted to the default Hunter’s Crest, and your ability to bind is severely limited until you reach the ruined Song Clave to reunite with Sherma. Most significantly, almost every enemy in the game is now "Abyss-Infected."
Infected enemies possess several new traits:
- Double Damage: Most attacks now deal two masks of damage.
- Void Tendrils: Enemies can sprout black blades from their bodies, increasing their horizontal and vertical reach significantly.
- Void Puddles: Certain enemies will leave behind black goop that erupts into waving blades shortly after hitting the ground.
The Bell Eater Boss Fight
Your first major obstacle in Act 3 is the Bell Eater, a centipede-like creature that blocks the grand bellways. This fight serves as a tutorial for the increased aggression of Act 3 bosses.
- Arena Control: The Bell Eater uses its long, armored body to wall off sections of the arena, forcing you into tight spaces.
- Attack Windows: You can only damage the mask (head) and the rear. When the head is visible, it will often spew red geysers; use a long-range tool like the Longclaw to chip away at it from a distance.
- Phase Shift: When the boss recedes into the background, watch the floor for vibrations. It will burst upward, dealing massive contact damage.
Successfully defeating the Bell Eater allows you to reclaim your Bell Beast and begin the journey toward the Ruined Chapel, where the final answers to Pharloom’s fate reside. Act 3 is a test of everything you learned in the first two acts, demanding perfect parries and a deep understanding of Hornet's expanded toolkit to survive the void.
