Vampire Survivors Evolutions: Every Weapon Combo for Your Next Run
Survivability in the late game of Vampire Survivors hinges almost entirely on the weapon evolution system. As the screen fills with thousands of enemies in the final minutes of a run, base weapons rarely possess the raw damage or utility required to push through the horde. Evolving weapons not only increases their base stats but often fundamentally changes how they function, introducing screen-clearing effects and life-stealing capabilities.
With the expansion of the game through 2024 and 2025, including massive crossovers like the Ode to Castlevania DLC and the Balatro collaboration, the number of potential combinations has grown significantly. Understanding the specific requirements for these evolutions is essential for planning a successful build, especially on higher difficulty maps or in Endless Mode.
The Fundamental Rules of Evolution
Before diving into the specific combinations, it is important to note the mechanical requirements that trigger an evolution. While most evolutions follow a standard pattern, newer updates have introduced exceptions.
- Level Requirement: The base weapon must usually be at its maximum level (typically Level 8).
- Passive Item: You must hold the corresponding passive item in your inventory. For most base game weapons, the passive item can be at Level 1, but for DLC content and advanced weapons, the passive item often needs to be maxed out as well.
- The Chest Trigger: Evolutions are obtained through Treasure Chests dropped by elite monsters or bosses. Standard rules state that chests dropped before the 10-minute mark of a stage will not contain an evolution, though some maps like Mad Forest or Dairy Plant have specific bosses that ignore this timer.
- Inventory Slots: Once a weapon evolves, it frees up its original weapon slot for the new, stronger version. However, the passive item remains in your inventory, occupying a slot unless it is also consumed (which is rare, seen in specific unions).
Base Game Evolution Combos
These are the classic combinations that form the backbone of most early to mid-game runs. They are reliable and generally easy to assemble.
- Bloody Tear: Whip + Hollow Heart. This evolution is vital for survivability as it introduces life-stealing on critical hits.
- Holy Wand: Magic Wand + Empty Tome. This removes the cooldown entirely, creating a continuous stream of projectiles that targets the nearest enemy. It is a premier defensive tool for keeping back single, high-health targets.
- Thousand Edge: Knife + Bracer. Similar to the Holy Wand, this removes the cooldown and fires a non-stop barrage of knives in the direction the character is facing.
- Death Spiral: Axe + Candelabrador. The projectiles become massive spinning scythes that pass through enemies and move outward from the player. The increased area from the Candelabrador makes this one of the best screen-clearing tools.
- Heaven Sword: Cross + Clover. The Cross evolves into a large blade that deals massive critical damage. The Clover’s luck bonus further increases the frequency of these crits.
- Unholy Vespers: King Bible + Spellbinder. The spinning books no longer disappear; they form a permanent physical barrier around the player, making it nearly impossible for common mobs to touch the character.
- Hellfire: Fire Wand + Spinach. The small fireballs turn into large, piercing meteors. It provides high burst damage for clearing paths through dense crowds.
- Soul Eater: Garlic + Pummarola. This evolution increases the aura's damage based on the amount of health the player has recovered. It also has a chance to drop hearts from defeated enemies.
- La Borra: Santa Water + Attractorb. This is widely considered one of the strongest evolutions. The puddles of holy water grow in size as they move toward the player, creating a massive zone of high DPS.
- Thunder Loop: Lightning Ring + Duplicator. Each lightning strike hits twice, significantly increasing total damage output.
- Gorgeous Moon: Pentagram + Crown. Unlike the base Pentagram, Gorgeous Moon does not erase experience gems or chests. It destroys all enemies on screen and pulls all experience gems to the player.
- Vicious Hunger: Gatti Amari + Stone Mask. The cats turn into giant eyeballs that turn enemies and pickups into gold coins.
- Mannajja: Song of Mana + Skull O'Maniac. The vertical pulses now have a chance to slow enemies down, providing excellent crowd control in tight corridors.
- Valkyrie Turner: Shadow Pinion + Wings. This leaves a trail of flames that can be blasted forward by stopping movement. It requires high player skill to utilize effectively but deals immense damage.
- No Future: Runetracer + Armor. The projectiles now explode when they bounce or when the player is hit, adding a layer of retaliatory damage.
Advanced Unions and Special Cases
Unions are unique because they involve merging two fully leveled weapons into a single slot, effectively freeing up a weapon slot for something else.
- Vandalier: Peachone + Ebony Wings. Both birds must be Level 8. Once merged into Vandalier, it can be leveled up another 8 times to increase its firing rate and area.
- Phieraggi: Phiera Der Tuphello + Eight the Sparrow + Tiragisú. This requires two weapons and a passive item. It creates a rotating laser array that scales its power with the number of revivals the player has.
- Fuwalafuwaloo: Vento Sacro + Bloody Tear. This union requires the Whip to already be evolved into the Bloody Tear. It creates a rapid-fire slashing attack that also heals the player.
- Infinite Corridor: Clock Lancet + Silver Ring + Gold Ring. This is a "God-tier" weapon required to kill the Reaper. It halves the health of every enemy on screen with every pulse. All three components must be at maximum level.
- Crimson Shroud: Laurel + Metaglio Left + Metaglio Right. This transforms the defensive shield into armor that caps all incoming damage at a low value and retaliates with explosive damage. Like the Infinite Corridor, all three items must be maxed.
- Sole Solution: Victory Sword + Torrona's Box (Max Level). This creates a galaxy-like effect that makes the player intangible and damages everything on screen intermittently.
The Ode to Castlevania DLC Evolutions
The Ode to Castlevania update is the largest in the game's history, adding a staggering number of whip variants and sub-weapons. These evolutions often require maxed-out passives.
- Vampire Killer: Alchemy Whip + Tiragisú. The classic whip that deals massive damage to undead and provides a holy aura.
- Spirit Tornado: Wind Whip + Crown. Creates gusting winds that pull enemies away from the player while dealing consistent damage.
- Cross Crasher Tip: Platinum Whip + Clover. A high-crit variant that mimics the classic "Grand Cross" visual from the Castlevania series.
- Hydrostormer Tip: Dragon Water Whip + Attractorb. This creates a rain effect that damages all enemies on screen periodically.
- Crissaegrim Tip: Sonic Whip + Skull O'Maniac. Known for its incredible attack speed, this evolution creates a blur of blades around the player.
- Mormegil Tip: Jet Black Whip + Stone Mask. Inflicts a darkness debuff on enemies, causing them to take more damage from all sources.
- Daybreaker Tip: Vibhuti Whip + Candelabrador. Creates bright explosions upon impact, scaling heavily with Area stats.
- Aura Blaster Tip: Vanitas Whip + Hollow Heart. A defensive-offensive hybrid that pulses with energy every time the player recovers HP.
- Yagyu Shuriken: Shuriken + Empty Tome. The shurikens now home in on enemies and pierce multiple targets.
- Bwa Ka Knife: Curved Knife + Bracer. A returning blade that acts like a boomerang but with much higher velocity and damage.
- Stellar Blade: Discus + Parm Aegis. The discus now hovers around the player, forming a defensive ring of stars.
- The RPG: Hand Grenade + Candelabrador. Launches high-explosive rockets that deal massive splash damage.
- Alucard Shield: This is a multi-stage evolution. It starts with the Alucard Sword. To reach the shield form, players must continue to collect chests after maxing the sword and having multiple other evolved weapons. It provides total protection and retaliates with the sword's ghost.
Emerald Diorama and Recent Crossovers (2025-2026)
The recent Emerald Diorama DLC introduced a three-tier evolution system, which was a first for the game.
- The Sword Path: Flamberge evolves into the Zweihander, which then evolves into Galatyn. Each stage requires a "Tech" level-up, usually obtained through specific map drops or high-level chests. Galatyn creates a solar beam that incinerates everything in a straight line.
- The Spear Path: Glaive evolves into Feather Spear, then into Lohengrin. Lohengrin increases the player's movement speed and leaves a trail of light that buffs damage.
- The Hand Path: Punch evolves into Pressure Point, then into Gilded Hand. This evolution turns the player into a melee powerhouse, with every third hit dealing 10x damage and generating a small amount of gold.
The Balatro Crossover: The Antichamber
Late in 2025, a surprise crossover with the hit poker-roguelike Balatro introduced card-based weaponry.
- Card Storm: Card Shooter + Empty Tome. The player fires a deck of cards that bounce between enemies. If the cards form a "poker hand" (e.g., hitting 5 enemies in a specific sequence), a massive explosion occurs.
- Minotaur Crusher: Maze Whip + Stone Mask. A heavy, flail-like weapon that leaves a labyrinthine trail on the ground. Enemies trapped in the trail are slowed by 80% and take continuous damage.
DLC Specifics: Moonspell, Foscari, and Beyond
For those playing the older but still vital DLCs, these evolutions remain part of the high-tier meta.
Legacy of the Moonspell
- Festive Winds: Silver Wind + Pummarola. Great for healing in the early game.
- Godai Shuffle: Four Seasons + Spinach + Candelabrador. This is one of the most visually impressive weapons, covering the screen in elemental bursts.
- Echo Night: Summon Night + Duplicator. Creates massive vertical beams that echo across the stage.
- Muramasa: Night Sword + Stone Mask. A powerful katana that can deal critical hits but drains the player's health over time.
Tides of Foscari
- Spellstrom: Spell String + Spell Stream + Spellstrike. A triple-weapon union that creates a magical storm of pure destruction. It is difficult to build but incredibly rewarding.
- Legionnaire: Es Kizzi Bur + Armor. Creates clones of the character that charge across the screen.
- Millionaire: Flash Arrow + Bracer + Clover. Fires a volley of arrows that drop gold coins upon killing enemies.
- Ophion: Shadow Servant + Skull O'Maniac. A dark orb that has a chance to instantly kill any non-boss enemy.
Emergency Meeting (Among Us DLC)
- Emergency Meeting: Report! + Mini Crewmate. Triggers a screen wipe that deletes a specific type of enemy currently present.
- Paranormal Scan: Lifesign Scan + Mini Ghost. Permanently buffs a random stat every few seconds. This is a must-have for Endless runs to scale stats infinitely.
Operation Guns (Contra DLC)
- Prototype A, B, and C: These involve the Long Gun, Short Gun, and Spread Shot paired with the Weapon Power Up (a unique passive for this DLC). They turn the game into a true side-scrolling shooter with high-frequency projectiles.
Strategic Advice for Evolution Planning
With only six weapon slots and six passive slots available (not counting map pickups), choosing the right evolutions is a game of management.
- Don't Over-evolve: While it's tempting to evolve everything, some base weapons are better left as-is if their evolution requires a passive item that doesn't benefit the rest of your build. For example, if you don't need health regen, taking Pummarola just to evolve Garlic might be a waste of a slot.
- The Torrona's Box Dilemma: This passive is required for Sole Solution and Ashes of Muspell. However, at Level 9, it increases enemy speed, health, and quantity by 100%. Only take this if your build is already powerful enough to handle the "Curse."
- Map Pickups: Always check the map for "static" passive items. You can fill your 6 passive slots first, and then pick up the items on the ground to effectively have 8, 10, or even 12 passive items at once. This is the only way to facilitate complex builds like the Infinite Corridor and Crimson Shroud simultaneously.
- The Super Candybox II Turbo: This rare item can appear in 5-item chests. It allows you to choose any evolved weapon from the entire pool, regardless of whether you have the base components. This is perfect for grabbing a La Borra or Gorgeous Moon late in a run to solidify your defense.
Evolutions are what turn a struggle into a power trip. As the game continues to receive updates into 2026, staying updated on the newest combinations—especially the crossover content—ensures that no matter how much the horde grows, you are always the one doing the hunting.
