Finding Every Golden Seed in Elden Ring
Golden Seeds serve as the most critical progression item in the Lands Between, directly dictating how many times a Tarnished can heal or replenish mana before resting. Unlike Sacred Tears which increase the potency of each flask use, Golden Seeds expand the total capacity. To reach the maximum of 14 flask charges, a total of 30 seeds must be collected and offered at a Site of Grace. Interestingly, FromSoftware included more than 40 seeds in the world, allowing for some flexibility if a few are missed in high-difficulty areas.
The Cost of Upgrading Your Flask
The requirement for adding a new charge increases as the flask grows more powerful. Understanding this progression helps in planning exploration routes:
- 6 total flasks: 1 seed per upgrade (2 seeds total required)
- 8 total flasks: 2 seeds per upgrade (4 seeds total required)
- 10 total flasks: 3 seeds per upgrade (6 seeds total required)
- 12 total flasks: 4 seeds per upgrade (8 seeds total required)
- 14 total flasks: 5 seeds per upgrade (10 seeds total required)
Most Golden Seeds are found at the base of small, glowing ethereal saplings known as Phantom Trees, though several are guarded by the formidable Ulcerated Tree Spirit bosses.
Limgrave and Weeping Peninsula Locations
Limgrave acts as the starting hub, and collecting seeds here is vital for early survival.
- The Starting Keepsake: During character creation, selecting a Golden Seed as a starting item provides an immediate extra flask charge, which is widely considered the most efficient choice for new runs.
- Stormhill Path: Following the main road from the Gatefront Ruins toward Stormveil Castle, a phantom tree stands clearly on the right side of the path, just before reaching the Stormhill Shack.
- Stormhill Shack (Roderika's Quest): After advancing Roderika's dialogue or moving her to Roundtable Hold, return to the spot where she sat in the shack to find a seed left behind.
- Fort Haight: Located in the southeastern corner of Limgrave. A phantom tree sits right outside the front entrance of the fort, guarded by a few demi-humans.
- Fringefolk Hero's Grave: This requires two Stonesword Keys to enter the tutorial dungeon. Defeating the Ulcerated Tree Spirit at the bottom rewards a seed. This encounter is notoriously difficult for low-level characters.
- Castle Morne Rampart: In the Weeping Peninsula, follow the road south toward the castle. Before reaching the wall where the giant archer shoots, look to the right for a rocky outcrop overlooking the valley to find a phantom tree.
Stormveil Castle Seeds
Within the first legacy dungeon, two seeds can be secured.
- Near the Secluded Cell: Just before the boss arena of Godrick the Grafted, head toward the courtyard filled with exiled soldiers. A small phantom tree is located near the wall where the NPC Nepheli Loux is first encountered.
- The Underground Crypt: Starting from the Liftside Chamber Site of Grace, head out to the courtyard, turn right, and drop down into the chasm. Navigating the rats and slugs leads to a massive Ulcerated Tree Spirit. Defeating it yields a seed. This area also contains a significant piece of lore regarding the Prince of Death.
Liurnia of the Lakes Locations
Liurnia is vast, but the seeds are concentrated around the Academy and the northern ravines.
- Academy Gate Town: In the sunken ruins east of the Raya Lucaria Academy, look for a phantom tree surrounded by crumbling buildings.
- Main Academy Gate: After using the Academy Glintstone Key to pass the first seal, do not go up the elevator. Instead, head north along the broken bridge. A phantom tree stands near the edge of the collapse.
- Raya Lucaria Courtyard: Inside the academy, after defeating the Red Wolf of Radagon, enter the courtyard. Hug the left wall, pass the iron virgin enemy, and look under the bridge for a phantom tree.
- Caria Manor: In the northwestern corner of Liurnia. After reaching the Manor Upper Level Site of Grace, the seed is located in the garden area just past the wolf-populated woods.
- The Ravine: At the far northern end of the lake, follow the riverbed into a narrow canyon. A seed is found on the path toward the Ruin-Strewn Precipice.
Caelid and Dragonbarrow Seeds
Caelid is a high-risk zone, but the seeds are relatively accessible without fighting major bosses.
- Southern Caelid Highway: Near the Caelid Highway South Site of Grace, the road curves toward Redmane Castle. A phantom tree is visible on the roadside.
- Sellia, Town of Sorcery: Located at the northern high point of the town. You will need to jump across rooftops or use the back path to reach the phantom tree near the stairs.
- Bestial Sanctum: On the far northeastern tip of the map. Following the road south from the Sanctum (where Gurranq resides), a phantom tree sits on the right side of the path.
- War-Dead Catacombs: Only accessible after defeating Starscourge Radahn. The Ulcerated Tree Spirit inside this dungeon drops a seed. This is one of the most aggressive boss variants in the game.
Altus Plateau and Mt. Gelmir
Altus Plateau is arguably the most lucrative region for flask upgrades, featuring trees that drop multiple seeds.
- Erdtree-Gazing Hill: Just north of the Grand Lift of Dectus or the Ruin-Strewn Precipice exit. The phantom tree is right next to the Site of Grace.
- Altus Highway Junction: Heading north from the junction toward the capital, a phantom tree stands near the fork in the road.
- Outer Wall Phantom Tree: This is a major find. Located just inside the first set of walls of the Capital Outskirts. This specific tree yields two Golden Seeds at once.
- Outer Wall Battleground: Further north along the road inside the outer walls, another phantom tree provides two more Golden Seeds.
- Seethewater River: In the canyon leading toward Mt. Gelmir. Follow the dry riverbed north from the Erdtree-Gazing Hill. The phantom tree is located on the path.
- Ninth Mt. Gelmir Campsite: After using the Spiritspring to jump to the Fullgrown Fallingstar Beast arena, head toward the gap leading to Volcano Manor. A seed is on the descent.
- Minor Erdtree (Altus): North of the woods in the center of the plateau, an Ulcerated Tree Spirit wandering the woods (not a boss room) drops a seed.
Leyndell, Royal Capital
While the outer walls are rich with seeds, the inner city and its aftermath contain a few more.
- West Capital Rampart: Near the large gargoyle enemy. A phantom tree stands on the path heading toward the roots of the Erdtree.
- Capital Sewer Entrance: Near the Avenue Balcony, dropping down into the lower residential area leads to an open courtyard where an Ulcerated Tree Spirit spawns from the ground. Defeating it rewards a seed.
- Ashen Capital: In the late-game version of the city, a seed can be found in the same general vicinity as the West Capital Rampart, though the landscape has shifted significantly.
Mountaintops of the Giants and Consecrated Snowfield
This frozen wasteland contains the final seeds needed for most players to cap their flasks.
- Forbidden Lands: On the narrow path between Leyndell and the Grand Lift of Rold. The phantom tree is impossible to miss on the main road.
- Ancient Snow Valley Ruins: Located in the frozen river valley. A phantom tree sits near the frozen lake where the fog-breathing dragon resides.
- Foot of the Forge: Near the Giant's Gravepost, look for a phantom tree on the southern edge of the plateau before the Chain Bridge.
- Ordina, Liturgical Town: To the west of the town in the Consecrated Snowfield. A phantom tree stands amidst the blizzard.
- Consecrated Snowfield Catacombs: The boss here, another Ulcerated Tree Spirit, drops a seed upon defeat.
Underground and Hidden Areas
Explorers of the eternal cities and the floating ruins will find the final surplus seeds.
- Siofra River: Near the Worshipper's Woods Site of Grace. Head north across a stone bridge to find a phantom tree.
- Nokstella, Eternal City: Following the main path up the stairs and past the Silver Tears, a seed is located in a small alcove near the elevator.
- Lake of Rot: An Ulcerated Tree Spirit hides beneath the scarlet rot near the Grand Cloister. Triggering it and defeating it provides a seed.
- Mohgwyn Palace: In the middle of the blood lake, surrounded by aggressive birds and albinaurics, a phantom tree stands on a small island of rock.
- Crumbling Farum Azula: Near the Dragon Temple Rooftop Site of Grace. Descend the platforms toward the courtyard with the white dragon and birds. A phantom tree sits in the center of the plaza.
- Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree: Near the Drainage Channel Site of Grace, heading back up into the rot-infested pond reveals a Putrid Tree Spirit. Defeating it grants a seed.
Optimizing Your Collection Route
For a smooth experience, the following strategy is recommended:
- Prioritize Altus Plateau: The jump from 8 to 12 flasks happens very quickly once you reach the Outer Wall Phantom Tree. If you find yourself struggling with bosses in Liurnia, a quick sprint to Altus can provide four seeds with minimal combat.
- Don't ignore the Tree Spirits: While Ulcerated Tree Spirits are intimidating, they are the primary source of seeds not found at phantom trees. Using fire-based attacks or grease significantly trivializes these encounters, as they are highly flammable.
- The Surplus Factor: Once you reach 14 flasks, any additional Golden Seeds collected serve no purpose. They cannot be traded or sold for significant value. If you have already reached the cap, you can safely ignore the high-difficulty seeds in the Haligtree or Crumbling Farum Azula.
Tracking these locations ensures that your Sacred Flask is always at peak efficiency, providing the necessary sustain to tackle the demigods of the Lands Between. Whether you are a spellcaster relying on Cerulean Tears or a melee warrior needing every drop of Crimson liquid, these seeds are the foundation of a successful build.
